Course Overview

The unit RIISAM202E—Isolate and access plant is to ensure that learners gain the skills and knowledge required to safely isolate and access plant and equipment in the resources and infrastructure industries, ensuring workplace safety and preventing injuries. Key topics includes:

  • Planning and preparing for isolating and accessing plant
  • Isolating plant by following workplace procedures
  • Completing permit to work forms
  • Returning plant to service after completing the necessary work.

Designed for operational roles, this course covers essential safety procedures, risk management and coordination with relevant personnel.

Course Content
Planning and Preparation: Learn to interpret work requirements, identify potential risks and implement control measures
Isolation Procedures: Master the steps to safely isolate all energy sources and immobilize potential hazards
Permit to work: Understand how to complete and manage permit to work forms effectively
Restoration: Gain knowledge on safely returning plant and equipment to service after maintenance or work.
Course Requirements
  • Must be 18 years old or over.
  • Basic English, literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to read and interpret workplace documentation.
  • Present photo identification (e.g. Driver’s License, Proof of Age Card, Medicare Card, Passport) on the day of training.
  • Permit a photo on the day (head, neck and shoulders) to go onto the duty of care card upon successful completion.
  • Wear closed-in footwear such as sandshoes, long pants and a shirt.
  • Notify the office if you need any additional literacy or numeracy support.
Learners must:
  • Obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number before attending the course. To create your free USI number, visit www.usi.gov.au
  • Complete the enrolment form & pre-study material prior to attending.

All training resources and PPE will be provided by StaySafe Training.
Delivery & Assessment
Delivery and assessment of this unit of competency are conducted face-to-face using written and multiple-choice theory questions, oral questioning and practical observation. The assessment will be conducted in English.
The outcome of the assessment will either be Competent or Not Yet Competent. If you are Not Yet Competent, you will receive feedback and have the chance to re-sit the assessment.
Upon successfully completion of this unit, learners will be issued:
  • A Statement of Attainment for the unit RIISAM202E Isolate and access plant
  • A duty of care card with your photograph
