Course Objective
This course covers the skills and knowledge for a person to perform the duty of Confined Space Standby/Observer. You will maintain an accurate count of all person/s within the confined space, monitor activities inside and outside the confined space to determine whether it remains safe for the entrants to remain inside. Implementation of confined space hazard controls including atmospheric monitoring and emergency response procedures.

This Confined Space Standby Course is made up of the following Nationally Accredited units of competency:
MSMPER200 - Work in accordance with an issued permit
MSMPER202 - Observe permit work

On successful completion of this course learners will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for the following 'units of competency'
MSMPER202 Observe permit work
MSMPER200 Work in accordance with an issued permit
Plus a duty of care card 
 
Selection Criteria
Must provide drivers licence or other photo identification which contains photo, date of birth and signature.
Basic English, literacy and numeracy skills at a level sufficient to read and interpret workplace documentation.
Upon enrolment a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment must be completed.
Any pre-study received MUST be read and completed in FULL prior to attending on the day. This will be a requirement to your course and there is an expectation that this is completed. 

* it is recommended that RIIWHS202E - Enter and work in confined spaces is completed prior to attending this course
Course content
Legislations, workplace hazards and safe work procedures
Risk assessments 
Apply for permit 
Identify the scope of the permit   
Prepare for permitted work
Work in accordance with an issued permit 
Complete permit to work 
Assessment
Assessment of this unit of competency is completed via a written assessment and observation of practical assessment activities including the completion of workplace documentation. Practical skills need to be achieved to be deemed competent. 
The assessment will be conducted in English without the use of an interpreter. The outcome of the assessment will be Competent or Not Yet Competent. If you are Not Yet Competent your trainer will provide you feedback and you will have the opportunity to re-sit the assessment.

Duration1 day - 8 hours 
Time:  8:00am - 4:00pm
Cost: $280.00* per person
Deposit: 20% deposit required on booking
Balance:  Balance payable on arrival at the course
fee includes study materials that are retained by students.

  • Verbal Assessment $75.00
  • Re-Assessment Fee (only applicable if learner is required to come back for re-assessment - contact office for more details)
  • Re-issue of card $50.00
Fees must be paid in full before the course date or payment arrangement in place

Learners must

Read this course information and the Learners Handbook prior to enrolment.
Wear fully enclosed footwear such as safety boots and long pants and shirt.
Have photo identification (ie Australian Drivers Licence, Passport or Proof of Age Card).
Obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI) number before attending the course (refer to the Learners Handbook).
