Confine Small Emergencies in a Facility (Fire Extinguisher Use)

Course Objective

This course is designed to ensure that learners gain the skills and knowledge required to confine small workplace emergencies.

Small workplace emergencies may include incidents such as a small workplace fire, which can be controlled with a nearby fire extinguisher. A chemical spill that can be controlled by using workplace personal protective clothing and equipment and a small spill kit.

On successful completion of this course learners will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for PUAFER008 Confine small emergencies in a facility (Fire Extinguisher use) and
Confine small emergencies in a facility Duty of Care Card

Selection Criteria

  • Must be 16 years of age or over.
  • Must provide Drivers Licence or other photo identification which contains photo, date of birth and signature.
  • Basic English, literacy and numeracy skills at a level sufficient to read and interpret workplace documentation.

  • Class of fires
  • Fire triangle

Different firefighting agents

  • Different types of fire extinguishers
  • Fire hose and reels
  • Fire blankets

First attack, firefighting procedures

  • Raising the alarm
  • Firefighting tactics
  • Safety procedure when fighting fires
  • Fire extinguisher Practical

Assessment

  • Assessment of this unit is done via the completion of a written assessment, observation of practical assessment activities including the completion of workplace documentation.
  • The assessment will be conducted in English without the use of an interpreter. The outcome of the assessment will be Competent or Not Yet Competent.
  • If you are Not Yet Competent your trainer will provide you feedback and you will have the opportunity to re-sit the assessment.

 

Course Details

Duration: 4 hrs
Times: 8am - 12pm
Cost: $250.00 (nil GST) per person or $140.00 with CITB funding

Other Fees if Applicable

  • Verbal Assessment $ 75.00
  • Re-Assessment Fee (only applicable if Learner is required to come back for reassessment - Contact Office for more details)
  • Re-issue of card $ 50.00

Fees must be paid in full before the course date or payment arrangement in place

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available and assessed on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must provide sufficient current evidence and may be required to undertake practical demonstration and/or challenge assessment.

Delivery Mode: Face-to-face training and assessment conducted at our approved training facility or client site (where applicable).

  • Practical demonstration
  • Verbal questioning (where applicable)

This course is delivered using a single comprehensive delivery model. All learners, including refresher participants, complete the full assessment requirements.
